Druid rituals (Who were the Druids?) [Druid study Part 1]
Druidic rituals usually involve a blessing to the place, a request for peace, offerings to the local spirits - so that there is mutual acceptance in the place -, offerings to the deities, healing actions, divination with ogham, physical actions (like going through the fires of beltane or perform ritual dances), prayers - circular movement to mark a sacred area around a central point -, evocations / offerings to ancestors and deities, honor to the beings of the three kingdoms (sea, land and sky) and a banquet ritual where drink - usually beer and mead - and food - breads, cakes, grains, fruits - are shared among all participants.
Who were the Druids?
They were the priests of the Celts, a people who lived in a vast area of Western Europe, encompassing present-day France, parts of Belgium, western Germany, northern Italy and going to the British Isles.
Druids appear as polytheistic religious leaders (who believed in several gods), full of rituals that would even include human sacrifices, which has never been proven - what is known is that they had “enlightenment” ceremonies!
Druids (in the female Druids or Druids) [1] were people in charge of the tasks of counseling and teaching, and of legal and philosophical guidelines within Celtic society. Although there is no consensus among scholars about the etymological origin of the word, druid seems to come from the word dru-wid-s, formed by the combination of deru (oak) and wid (Indo-European root, which means to know). Thus, a druid would mean one who has the knowledge of the oak. [2] The oak, in this sense, being one of the oldest and most prominent trees in a forest, symbolically represents all the others. In other words, whoever has the knowledge of the oak has the knowledge of all the trees.
